Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient

Location: Blogs Bob O'Brien's Sanity Check Blog

There was a great bit on this morning's CNBC squawk box, where Charlie Gasparino, in the nicest possible terms, called Gradient on their "misstatements."

Click here to view the clip.

The Bunny thought it would be fun to shorten it up some and cut to the chase, so out came the MS Paint, to the rescue.

So there it is. The Bunny's take on the interview. I hope that Gradient keeps on opening their mouth. The more I hear, between Cramer, Herb and this Hilary Clinton wannabe, the deeper the hole seems to get for the perps.

Any questions?

You just don’t get it Bob. For a fee we let you select a company, and then we take all their numbers, throw them into a hat, mix it up real good, and then pour it into our very sophisticated proprietary algorithm machine, click our heels together 3 times, chant oh-wha-ta-nass-iyam, throw the switch and within 10 seconds 9 adolescent baboons type out a number that can tell you within a nanoschpiel whether to buy, sell or hold. Don’t forget Bob, we have masters degrees.

Too funny - 60 Minutes extended an invatation to the hedge fund and they declined; Squawk Box extended an invatation to Biovil and they declined. Why would anyone go on CNBC after the ambush job they did on Dr Byrne ? Just a shouting match.
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By smuopr8r on 3/29/2006 11:43 AM
oh-wha-ta-nass-iyam...ROTFLMFAOH!!!!

The material the miscreants are providing these days is just priceless. Not to be a wet-blanket, but I think today's coverage in NFI was all in BS' plan (maybe not quite this soon) thanks to their move to $35 June puts. I'm hoping that the momentum get noticed and motivates some federal judicial, "quasi"-executive, and legislative action on its own, not to mentioned continued State regulator attention, but that might just be wishful thinking. Here's to Bobo and friends, and the great results achieved thus far!
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By ecn fake trades on 3/29/2006 12:14 PM
Look at this ECN

http://www.trackecn.com/

They place 430,572 trades, then cancel 412,548

To Joe Public, they can make it look like there is huge volume, all on the bid when in reality, there might not be a real single seller and the short is desperately trying to buy stock on the bid.

When Joe Public finally hits the bid, he may be the only real seller.

Note how much volume is OTC, Nasdaq and Listed. Tells you something.

We need to have Matthews on there while Herb was going ballistic giving him the smug treatment "uh uh.. What do you say to that Ron? Have you ever seen something like that in your entire career on Wall Street?"

Wow he IS looking really tense these days. You weren't kidding about the bags.
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By long_ostk on 3/29/2006 12:20 PM
Bunny, FWIW. I know this has been discussed before but I thought I would mention this. Having followed the NSS scandel for the better part of 5 years I know it like the back of my hand and can grasp the scope of the problem. I find much humor in your cartoons and sarcasim as I get the jokes. I only mention this because I have for the first time tried to educate some friends and family on the problem that faces our capital markets. It is very hard to explain to them something that I have lived and breathed for the past 5 years. They cant quite grasp the scope of things and how it would really impact them. With that said, I sent them to your site and they called me back even more confussed then ever. They saw a few of the cartoons and were total lost. I might suggest a seperate section with "funnies" and a serious tone on the main blog. Ever since Patrick held up that link on CNBC I would have to think many newbies have vistited the site to learn more and unless you live and breath this NSS the jokes make no sense and might cause folks to just leave the site and not educate themselves. Just my opinion and I know what opinions are like.... Eitherway, I will continue to enjoy this site as I get this stuff. I only hope we dont loose newbies cause they are lost...

Bobo, you are HILARIOUS!! Your cartoons are the BEST!! You should do comedy/impressions of others on the side!! I'd pay front row seats!! LOL :-)
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By giner on 3/29/2006 12:46 PM
long_ostk, I'm with you on that point.

I find the cartoons hilarious but if I hadn't been around for years, I think I might not get it either.

Let us get the story straight and unwind the liability. What ever happened to Pinnacle? Remember Pinnacle? There is where the bodies are buried. Gradient used the research and got their client base to move the stock.. Bet they front-ran their clients!
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By Lee Walter on 3/29/2006 1:17 PM
I agree with long ostk.

You have to step out of your bunny suit and walk around in the shoes of John and Jane Public. I've mentioned this to Mr. Faulk. It's why Patrick Byrne is so effective. He stays on point, backs it up with facts, and acknowledges the grey areas in the debate.

Look, you are not taking on Herb Greenberg here. A seventh grade debate team could do away with him.

The most effective guys so far are Bud Burrell and Patrick Byrne. They repeatedly take a complex issue and break it down into its simple component parts (but not more than that). Look over your previous blogs, there too damn complex (or over simplified) for the average joe to follow.

I agree with long ostk, there is a need for funny, but it should be seperate from the matters at hand.

Bottom Line: if what we all suspect is true, then we are up against some very powerful and well entrenched interest here. Spending too much time back and forth with their minions will not get the American public the facts they rightfully deserve.

I think Charlie Gasparino should be congratulated on being a good and fair journalist.

It is so great to watch Herb squirm every 5 minutes on CNBC.
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By I'm Confused on 3/29/2006 3:43 PM
Why pay Gradient for reports you wrote yourself?
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By bobo on 3/29/2006 4:11 PM
Maybe for their distribution of those reports and the impression that it was unbiased research?
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By Admiral Ackbar on 3/29/2006 5:28 PM
Yeah, What about pinnacle? Karen(Gradient spokesperson) said they were COMPLETELY independent. they had "No investment banking, no broker/dealers, take no sales comissions" Hmm. the existence of Pinnacle would directly refute that. What exactly were pinnacles positions and when were they taken?
The squawkbox crew KNOW when they are being fed BS. Great Clip.
Pinnacle, Pinnacle, Pinnacle. I feel like playing golf....
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By mig on 3/29/2006 11:08 PM
bobo I am surprised you didn't comment on the freudian slim Karen did Many times during the first half of the interview. It made me literally laugh out loud when I figured out what she was doing. When asked why they didn't have disclosure about who requested the report or had input for the report...she kept saying because the S.A.C. errr ummm I mean the S.E.C. doesn't require it.

This is a paraphrased thought that someone on the dndn board wrote

On Stop Trading Cramer pompously bobbled that he doesn’t always agree with Gradient and showed a stock he likes that Gradient doesn’t.

Then he said he never even heard of Gradient until recently.

How does he know he doesn’t always agree if he never even heard of Gradient?
Re: Today's Squawk Box with Gasparino and Gradient By hhawes on 3/30/2006 5:59 AM
I also agree with Long Ostk and Lee. I am an average Joe Public investor who found this site through the NFI message board sometime ago. I find it fascinating, informative and very scary. I don’t have the answer, but somehow, we have got to get the average investing public informed as to the serious ramifications to their 401K's, savings/investments, retirement funds, etc., and the impact of independent "research" firms, hedge fund stock manipulation schemes and the "unwinding" of the NSS situation on the markets and financial institutions holding their 401K’s and investments Until we get an upwelling of public outrage and support, the all powerful will have their way with us despite all the good intentions and information disseminated on this board daily.

Leave Barry Bonds alone HYPOCRITES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear friends,

Barry Bonds took Steroids ?

Barry Bonds didn't take Steroids ?
----------------
Congress is stepping in to investigate !
----------------
Hedge Funds are "counterfeiting" REAL American business
shares of stock with Bank I.O.U's ?

Hedge Funds are complying with all/most Laws concerning
settlement of shares of American stock ?
---------------
Barry Bonds= Dedicated athelete-5 Hours a day in gym.
Travels all over America to put on a show for Baseball fans.
Allows children to DREAM about "filling" his shoes someday !

Why is Congress looking into this man ?

He is an American "dream" come true !

If he took something to "enhance" his ability to perform
in the "show" ?

BIG FUCKING DEAL !

He works VERY HARD and is a VERY VALUABLE PLAYER
to the game/show of Baseball
----------------

Hedge Funds/Banks/DTCC/Market Makers/Investment
Banks/Journalists/Media - are all "teaming-up" against you
and selling you the American Investor a Bank I.O.U instead
of a TRUE share of stock.

So if you the investor ask them the "banker" to buy you
shares of stock and they DON'T go to market like "this little
piggy" and buy ?
They instead put a Bank I.O.U in your account ?

Where does your money then go if not into that market ?

What did this little piggy/Hedge Fund Banker do with your money ?
You the hard working American Investor/Citizen/Taxpayer/
parent ?
---------------

Which would you as a member of Congress "investigate" ?

Which "issue" has more importance to you as an American ?

An unfair Baseball player ?
or
An unfair business practice in our financial markets/game ?

Call your Congress Representative NOW or send him this
note

Then ask them to investigate what is important to you !

The Barry Bonds "issue" is not that important to launch
and investigation !
-----------------

What is happening on Wall Street IS WORTHY of an investigation!!
